Diamonds are formed when graphite is heated and pressured. Graphite comes from the mantle of the earth. There are approximately 20,000,000 diamonds made in a decade. About 2,000,000 diamonds are made in a year. That is about 1,000 tons. Diamonds are also formed, in Saturn’s atmosphere, when lightning burns up the methane in the air. That produces pure hydrogen and burnt carbon, which is known as soot. The soot clumps together and then falls from the sky. These clumps then form into graphite as they get closer to saturn and turn into diamonds. These are some interesting facts about diamonds.
