Have you ever wondered how a fruit fly is born? Here is the life cycle of a fruit fly. Eggs: Females find old or decaying fruit on which to lay their eggs. Fruit flies can lay up to 500 eggs. They can lay up to 7 batches of eggs. Larvae: The eggs hatch into small insects called larvae. The larvae eat the fruit where they are born. Then, they go to a dark and dry place to become a pupa. They wait in a cocoon until they’re ready to hatch into adults. Adults: Once they transform into adults, the males start mating. Once the male finds a female she starts to lay eggs. The female mates with several males. That is the life cycle of a fruit fly.
