Did you know bald eagles are on the endangered species list? Bald eagles are amazing animals. The females are different from the males. The females have lighter color feathers than the males. The females have sharper beaks than the males. The male’s eye color tends to be more yellow than the females. DDT is the number one reason why there are not as many bald eagles as there was before. DDT is a chemical that poisons birds. DDT used to be used to kill insects. The birds eat worms that are living in the soil near old DDT chemical plants. In the year 1972 the chemical DDT was restricted in many different areas. DDT has caused different problems for the bald eagles because it alerted the birds nervous system. It also caused females to not reproduce and what they used to reproduce. The DDT caused an abundance of calcium in the eagles eggshell. This led to the eggs being brittle so it can easily break. Next, you can help the bald eagles by following these steps. First, you can help bring bald eagles back by doing these things. We can band DDT from being used due to impact of wildlife resources. Second, you should never disturb the birds or the nests. The last reason is when the babies are learning how to fly to keep all pets inside for safety! That's why bald eagles are on the endangered list. Hopefully after reading this bald eagles won't be on the endangered species list anymore. They are such amazing birds.
